Sukkot homework

Here is the model sukkah my children made. Why were they working on this instead of working on our real sukkah? Because last Friday the ganenet wrote and asked the parents to help their children make a sukkah to bring to gan, and that the most beautiful sukkah would win a prize. Fortunately, my son has older siblings who enjoy doing that kind of thing. Otherwise my poor son would have been deprived again, or he would have had a very sad-looking sukkah. Today he said that everyone who brought a sukkah would get a sticker–the boys would get gold stickers and he couldn’t remember what color the girls would get.
The picture on the left shows the inside of the sukkah with a table, candles, and decorations. In the end the kids had plenty of time to make decorations and put most of them up. I think we hit a record this year for pre-Sukkot preparedness. The lights are in, and they even work. Every year it seems my husband is never satisfied with the schach (the plant material covering the roof), and always wants to tie it down more. This year is no different. It’s tough to be a man.
