Why I Moved My Blog to Wordpress
Over the last few months I’ve been researching how to start a completely new blog on a more general topic. When I learned that a Wordpress blog on a hosted domain is the most professional and searchable, I decided to switch A Mother in Israel over as well so that I can eventually attract some direct advertising.
As always, I’m looking forward to writing on a variety of topics. I welcome suggestions and offers of guest posts as well.
Moving from Blogger has been a huge amount of work and I could not have done it without the patience and assistance of design and web experts Leora and Lisha. About 90% of the comments have been moved over, thanks to Leora’s superhuman efforts, and I will be making more changes gradually.
If you have my blog in your blogroll, please update the URL to http://AMotherInIsrael.com.
Because MomInIsrael.com is easier for some people to remember it has been redirected here as well, but the blog’s main address will be AMotherInIsrael.com.

well apparently one thing you can’t do in wordpress is leave hebrew comments. that should have been titchadshi at the end

. I am not an expert, but one advantage of many is that it is much easier to optimize Wordpress for search engines.
I thought you were emphasizing the question
I am looking for a solution to the hebrwe problem.

LoZ, you can leave comments in Hebrew on my WordPress blog. If you search through my really early posts, I wrote about WordPress in Hebrew.
MominIsrael is going to be an expert at WordPress, just you wait and see!
There are options in the Dashboard Settings about how one wants to set up comments. I suggest moderating the very first comment someone leaves. That’s what has worked for me.

Leora, it is set up to moderate first-time commenters. But most of you have already commented, when we moved the posts over from the old blog.

When you say it’s “more searchable” what exactly do you mean? I kind of feel like Blogger is very basic, but then again I don’t have the time to learn what it could do. Would being on wordpress attract more visits? And is the difficulty in switching over because you want to transfer the blog, rather than start from scratch?
In any case, it looks great and we’re looking forward to continued posting…

It’s lovely. I don’t have the money to invest in paying someone nor the patience to play with it. I keep telling myslef I ought to use the new blogger templates, but I don’t get to that either.
Google finds me where I am.

I also moved to Wordpress after a while and haven’t regretted it. It was a good idea. I like their settings and layouts better and it is more user-friendly to comment on Wordpress. Wel-done all three of you!

Baila, sorry for not responding before. A website has different layers of organization. The reader might not be aware of all of them, but Google is. If you know what text to put in the right places then Google will rank your site higher in searches for that text. There are even ways to set Wordpress to do this automatically. I think that Google also ranks a website hosted on its own domain higher than one hosted on a site like Blogger. I am not an expert, but all of the experts use Wordpress. I also know that when I see a website with its own domain, I give it more credibility.
