After the shiur (class) after shul, the kids receive some kind of treat. This week my daughter got a package of Tapuchips (potato chips). The label on the outside gives a warning in four languages that the package contains a dangerous toy, “Not suitable for children under 6 years .”

Toy Warning
I was curious since most warnings are for children under the age of 3, because of small parts. So I was surprised when my daughter (just short of 6!) opened this fearful object (wrapped in plastic with the warning repeated):

The Dangerous Object
It’s a simple cardboard card. Oh, wait, it’s coated with some kind of shiny veneer. It seems to me that potato chips are more of a choking hazard than this toy.

but um, maybe it could be chewed up and swallowed and oh no! every child who ever swallowed cardboard instantly died! oh no wait… not so much…
unbelievable!
A trading card? How bizarre.
Heh. When I was a camp counselor, some boys did use their trading cards as “ninja throwing stars.” I guess they could have put an eye out, but the worst injury succumbed before we took the cards away were small welts that disappeared in about 20 minutes.
Err, I meant “sustained” not “succumbed.” Oops.
I’ve seen that on a bunch of things recently. In the Honey Nut Cheerios box there is a toy in a plastic package and there also it says that it’s from age 6 and up. Personally I totally understand because my daughter who is 3.5 is very mischevious and has a tendency to put everything in her mouth. B”H nothing too serious has ever happened but I see why these things say for ages 6 and up. And my six year old can totally handle the games.
Here in the US, everything has a warning on it. It’s a CYA approach.
But a card?? I too am inclined to agree that the potato chip is more of a choking hazard!
I’m surprised that it didn’t say “Warning. Not for use on wet Bobcats.” or “Caution. May cause sever allergic reaction in children with a cardboard allergy.” Did it say “For external use only.”? Parents need to know that.
Excuse me, stop making fun. Do you have any idea the severe danger of paper cuts?
