Fake Burka Video posted

This video is clearly and obviously a fake. There are many clues, sprinkled throughout the video, showing the lack of modesty among these wanton women.

  1. Because they are not wearing “shalim,” the contour of their shoulders and arms are clearly visible. At one point one of the ladies shockingly lifts her arms up in the air .
  2. They wear flesh-colored stockings (or perhaps none at all? Chas ve-chalilah).
  3. They read Yediot Aharonot, a traif secular newspaper.
  4. At minute 2:46, it is possible to view a glimpse of neck, and again a few seconds later.
  5. One of the women has a cellphone on a string around her neck. Tzanua women do not speak on the street on a cellphone. See Mishbetzot Zahav Levusha where it says that this is clearly against the spirit of tznius.
  6. One of the woman works outside the home, in a library (a library!!) no less. Tzanua women earn their living through home businesses.
  7. One of the women is seen casually touching a boy in passing.
  8. They have English initials on their robes. This is a sign of a secular taint and a serious aberration from the ancient dress of our holy patriarchs and matriarchs.

If all of that didn’t give it away, the Laverne and Shirley shtick they do certainly would have ;-) .

    MomInIsrael:
#1, the English letters are FINE, because Lashon HaKodesh is only for holy things, and should NEVER be on clothing. Duh. You cant go to the bathroom with HEBREW letters on their robes? How else would they tell their robes apart?
#2 The “burkas” look more like Ninja uniforms. Not that it’s a bad thing; A Ninja squad in Ramat Beit Shemesh might actually quiet things down.

personalized burqas? breakfast at Aroma? shooting pool? I think it is 100% real.

this is real…really funny and clever.
Did you note Kurtz in the credits? Allusion to Mr. Kurtz from Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.

Jameel, I heard that over at Nachal Nachman St. you can get double-covers for your Hebrew initials.

While I admit I got bored and started skipping through it after a few minutes (yes, I know I have an incredibly short attention span), I only saw BS locations, nothing in RBS… Rafi, did I miss anything?

Very interesting analysis…Btw, ‘Kurtz’ in the credits is actually the name of the lady with the great legs from the pool scene. We had a great time making it…and…it is 100% a purim joke (not sure if “fake” covers this sentiment or implies something more sinister, but it never occurred to any of us that this would be taken seriously!), a jab at the marginal phenomenon in RBS. Glad you enjoyed.

Sara: We all knew it was a joke!
(Though I’m rather proud my blog, “The Muqata” was also mentioned in your video…It’s quoted in the Forward newspaper of which there’s a still shot)
    Kudos!

Mike – I saw nothing in rbs either, except for if you count the construction sign which is close to the edge of RBS B (if I am thinking of the right construction sign..)

    3. The “ninja” shot was totally the look we were going for – thanks for noticing!

  14. Yisrael Medad Said,

Legs weren’t bad but the missed pool shot. How’d that happen?
And just that you should know, it’s spelled: برقع
And doesn’t this sound similar to how the Chassidim got to dress they way they do – “The chadri was created by one of Afghanistan’s rulers trying to stop anyone from seeing his wives’ faces. He came up with the chadri, which became a sign of an upper class citizen; however, as times changed, the new government decided that chadris weren’t modern enough and banned them. The upper class people then gave them to their servants.”?

You are so right about the cellphone. Once I gave a lecture in Bet Yaakov and had everything right down to the skirt length and thought I looked perfectly tznius…then told the cellphone was not tznius!

The ladies also did not have their husband’s old black socks, with spaces for the fingers cut out, on their hands. We saw a flash of hands and wrists.
But for Burka ladies, these babes are HOT!!!

A comment from TWO of the Burka Women?!
We’re not worthy! We’re not Worthy! Err, then again, this blog did get those 2 comments, so I guess it is worthy…

Well, after reading what she does for a living on her website, I am very curious as to what on earth she was lecturing Beis Yaakov girls about ;)

  29. mominisrael Said,

    March 24, 2008 - 18 Adar II 5768 @ 9:26 PM

Rafi, does Aroma have a mehadrin hechsher? Very suspicious indeed. . .
Leora, literary allusions and Youtube don’t usually go together.
Mike–I had to watch this one twice, for blog’s sake, but like you, I rarely have patience for them. And this one was long.
JF–the neck-flash was subtle, wasn’t it. Kind of like the princess and the pea. There’s a literary allusion for Leora. A real bat-melech wouldn’t allow it to happen.
Tamiri, the hand-socks are only a chumra.

  30. Fern R Said,

    March 24, 2008 - 18 Adar II 5768 @ 10:18 PM

How scandalous!!! Those women only had two or three layers on! Real modest women wear 10-15 layers so that you can’t tell if the black blob of fabric walking towards you is a person or the Loch Ness monster. Humph. Women these days know nothing, NOTHING about tznius!!!

  31. Baila Said,

    March 25, 2008 - 18 Adar II 5768 @ 7:00 AM

As I said on Jameel’s blog, these ladies are way to sexy for their burkas!

  32. frumhouse Said,

    March 25, 2008 - 18 Adar II 5768 @ 5:11 PM

I wonder who sanctioned those stilettos in the pool hall scene? I thought women had to wear shoes that don’t click and clack?
Also, it was shameful the way one woman held up the veil of the other woman so she could drink her coffee. Her chin was clearly visable! Haven’t they heard of straws?

  33. Holy Hyrax Said,

    March 25, 2008 - 18 Adar II 5768 @ 6:04 PM

    Frumhouse
The real shameful thing here is what is she doing out of the kitchen in the first place?

BTW, this lady is a Burkha Babe, I saw her on the news last night: “A Jerusalem court on Tuesday extended by six days the remand of a Beit Shemesh woman suspected of abusing her twelve children. Police believe that the children had sexual intercourse with each other, some for a long period of time…said police head of investigations in Beit Shemesh, Roni Markovitch. “We opened with a wide-scale undercover investigation, and then we received complaints of violence within the family and incest between the siblings.”…During the police investigation, it became evident that the mother was violent towards some of her children, and would routinely beat them, sometimes with a sharp object. In other instances, when the children would come home late, they would be sent to sleep in a locked shed outside of the house.” http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/968326.html

We (the spoofers) just saw it last night and were freaked out. This genuine article burqa lady (lets not include her in the babe appelation) is apparently the leader of the pack. One of my friends, a therapist, said long ago that she suspects real illness, not just hyper-tzniut, is behind the veils. So sorry to see that that she was right.
