Pesach Roundup

I plan on this being my last Pesach-related post. Thanks to a pre-Yom Tov discussion with our offspring, we enjoyed the last day of the holiday. Two out of our five guests actually showed up. On erev chag, I went around to the neighbors collecting potatoes, which they were happy to donate to the cause before they got moldy. I had to ask the guests to bring their leftover matzah, and I used up every onion and carrot in the house. My son read the Torah so beautifully that even the ezrat nashim (women's section) quieted down. Unofficial Guide to Pesach Shopping in Israel

When my aunt first shopped for Pesach after making aliyah, she was excited by the huge assortment of kosher for Passover products.b When Pesach was over, she learned that all those products contained kitniyot (legumes), which Ashkenazi Jews avoid on Pesach. Israel has a much larger kitniyot-eating population, especially when you consider that most Ashkenazim eat them, even if they keep Pesach. The best way to avoid the kitniyot issue is to shop at a haredi supermarket. The prices tend to be low, kitniyot are carefully labeled and kept apart, and you can get everything you could possibly need in one stop including kitchenware, clothes, small appliances and even shoes.
