What to Do When the Elevator is Broken

The above sign is one of my favorites. Located near the elevator door at the Avnet Mall in Petach Tikva, it reads, “When the elevator is broken, use the stairs.” In case you still don’t know what to do, a helpful graphic is provided.

Recently, one of my son’s army tekeses took place in Latrun. In that large hall on the other side of the plaza. There’s a sign near the elevator that says, Disabled Elevator. It was obvious that they meant to say that the elevator is for the handicapped. I don’t remember what it said in Hebrew, but it was probably just a very poor translation. I could kick myself for not getting a picture of it!

Funny story. Good luck to your son(s)!

  3. nice

  4. Duh.

  5. this sign makes israelis look like idiots:

    1) they can’t figure out what to do if the elevator is broken?
    2) the elevator breaks that frequently that they made a special sign with these instructions?

  6. mominisrael says

LOZ, why Israelis? Why not mall owners, signmakers, etc.?

  7. A little shop in Tel Aviv (whose name I’ve forgotten) has a little step in front of the entrance. The sign next to the door reads “Beware the step”.
Sounds like a pretty evil step. Blah, hah, hah!

  8. MII:

the signmaker is merely filling an order
the mallowner is merely catering to the clientelle.
ok, so the sign doesn’t make out all israelis to be idiots . . . just the mallgoers.

my favorite sign in israel is the one for the “kakysaky” (forthcoming post)

  9. Did LoZ post Kakysaky yet? Did I miss that?

  10. mominisrael says

Leora, I didn’t see it yet.

  11. Kakysaky? We keep a supply of Sakykakies next to the dog leashes.
